    Bactogas is a bacterial powder product designed to stimulate, enhance and improve the efficiency of the anaerobic digestion process. The mineral carrier provides a place for the colonization of methanogens and acts as an ion exchanger to promote interspecies electron transfer. Bacillus strains were selected for their ability to increase the hydrolysis and fermentation phases, excluding anaerobes active hydrolytic enzymes.

    The Bactogas mineral carrier acts to enhance the most sensitive microbial components of the anaerobic digestion process; methanogens and acetogens. Because Bacillus acts as a promoter of hydrolysis, which helps in the greater turnover and degradation of polymeric compounds such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats.
    Due to this synergy, Bactogas can increase the amount of methane produced, reduce the final sludge volume, and improve the condition of the fermenter. The system is designed to increase stability and overall productivity, improve economic and environmental performance, and close the bio-economic cycle.

    The basis of biotechnology is a mineral combination of a carrier and selected Bacillus microorganisms. The new carrier acts in a multifaceted manner by enhancing the most sensitive parts of the anaerobic digestion process, mediated by acetogens and methanogens. The mineral surface pores allow deep-structured biofilm colonization and provide an additional layer of protection for these microbes. It makes them more resistant to environmental conditions such as pH fluctuations and the effects of inhibitory compounds such as ammonia

    The mineral surface acts as an ion exchanger and facilitates interspecies electron transfer, greatly facilitating anaerobic respiration.
    The surface of the mineral is also able to absorb compounds such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, reducing their inhibitory effect.

    Bacteria consortia were selected for their diverse metabolic capacity and ability to function across a range of pH and temperature values. The ability of the bacillus to secrete hydrolytic enzymes in an anaerobic environment promotes the degradation of various polymeric compounds found in the substrate (proteins, polysaccharides and fats). This helps to liquefy the sludge (substrate) making it bioavailable for further degradation and for subsequent methane formation.
    The ability to form resistant spores ensures that they will only begin to develop when conditions permit. This ensures long-term product stability and specificity.

    Both components enhance the most sensitive microbes, allowing a higher turnover of volatile fatty acids and higher methane generation. 

    Bactogas use case:

    Bactogas was dosed into sewage sludge for 3 months. The biogas plant receives 240m3 of sludge daily, of which 10% is consists of landfill leachate. pH 7, temperature +35oC, retention time 10 days. A boiler is used to heat the sludge (as fuel - diesel and biogas). Bactogas additive was dosed at 0.15% of the dry matter content. The initial dose is 50 kg, and then 10 kg daily.

    Dosing was done using a modified tank for solution production and dosing to the sludge line.

    Substrate supply: 10.3m3/h, digester volume 2500m3.

    Result: dosing of the product reduced the sludge volume by 50% during the test period. and doubled the amount of gas. Costs for diesel, flocculant and sludge disposal were also significantly reduced. The economy reached 215,000 EUR.

    The product is packed in bags of 20 kg.
