Pond colorants are mainly food grade colorants.

They come in several colors and you can choose which color you want depending on your pond environment. Some people like it; some don't. Here are the pros and cons, and we'll leave it up to you to decide.

All pond dyes work the same way, coloring the water blue, shade, or black.

Light absorption of pond paint, blocking sunlight greatly reduces photosynthesis in water.

This reduces the growth of weeds and algae in different areas of the pond or lake. "Black" pond paint will not help a muddy pond. Only blue dye will penetrate the suspended particles and give results.

Pond dye Dyofix offers an alternative that can reduce the growth of plants and algae in many ponds.

However, dyes do not inhibit the growth of all aquatic plants, although they do affect the growth of weeds (elodia, tapeworms, crickets, etc.).

The dyes also inhibit the growth of filamentous algae, carpet forming algae and unicellular plankton algae.

Dyofix Black Pond Dye can be used for ponds on golf courses.

If the pond has a source or the flow through the pond is high, the pond dye will quickly dissolve and will not work.

As a rule, the pond flow per month should be less than 50% of the pond volume for this to be an affordable way.

The dye is food grade and cannot harm fish or humans in any way.

If there are a lot of water weeds or algae that are blocked by dyeing too quickly at one time, the fish can die due to lack of oxygen by rotting algae and plants.
Aeration or oxygen preparations are required, as well as bacteria to decompose dead plants. Some plants need to be removed manually.

Benefits

  • Pond dye is an alternative that can reduce the growth of weeds and algae in ponds.

  • Pond dye can help prevent fish predators: herons, other birds, aquatic predators.

  • Using pond paint is as simple as pouring paint into water. It will dissipate quickly in the pond, usually within a few hours. Because the paint will disperse under water by itself, there is no need to spray or lubricate yourself.

  • Water from ponds using dyes can be used to irrigate all crops and to drink or wash animals or pets.

  • Fish from painted ponds is actually safe to eat.

  • Recreational swimming is also safe. When swimming in painted ponds, when the paint is diluted to the required level, clothing, skin or hair will not be dyed.

  • Dyes also inhibit the growth of filamentous algae, carpet-forming algae, and single-cell planktonic algae.

  • Most dyes chosen for use in water are considered environmentally friendly and non-toxic, which means they will not harm birds, reptiles, mammals, fish or soil.

  • Dyes can be used to control birds.

  • One of the reasons people use paint in their ponds is to make their shallow pond look deeper.

  • Dyes do not interfere with the growth of all aquatic plants growing above water (lilies, ajeras, etc.).

If there are many water weeds or algae that are blocked by dyeing too quickly at the same time, the fish may die due to lack of oxygen, rot of the algae and plants, requiring aeration or oxygen preparations, as well as bacteria to decompose or manually remove dead plants.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Wear gloves and protective clothing as you may smear clothing or skin.

  • The first use in the spring will begin to fade in a month or two as the thaw and rain dilute the paint, sometimes even earlier. Color is gradually lost due to photodegradation and biodegradation because the dye is an organic compound. It is therefore necessary to approx. 10 percent to replenish the amount of paint throughout the growing season.

  • The pond owner should regularly assess how much blue or other color is in the water. This can be done by measuring how much down you can see e.g. a white disc, wand, or other object lowered. The first assessment should be made 48 hours after the first use in the spring.

  • You should re-measure the depth at which the white object disappears approximately every two weeks. When the measured depth increases by about 25%, more paint needs to be added to return the measured depth to the original measurement.

  • Dyes do not interfere with the growth of plants growing above water, do not act against floating plants (such as water lilies) when their leaves float on the surface.

  • If there is a significant change in water (flowing pond), the use of paint is not recommended.

  • Pond dyes are not pesticides and should not be considered as an alternative.

  • Black dye is not effective in dirty ponds. Only blue paint will penetrate the suspended particles and give you results.

Remember

  • Water-based dye are best used in early spring (March and April) to be most effective in fighting water weeds and algae.

  • 'This is a good way to control water weeds - to prevent germination: to limit the growth of the early season.

  • Water dyes are most effective in ponds that receive little inflow of water, even in heavy rain. The paint is very effective in excavated ponds and rainwater ponds with low leakage.

  • Aquatic weeds and algae are major problems for many pond and lake owners

  • Black pond dye: perfectly blocks light, looks beautiful as a reflective pond

  • Underwater aquatic weeds, plants and algae need nutrients and sunlight to thrive like your lawn and trees. Pond weeds can only grow where sufficient light reaches the growth area of the pond or lake. This area is called the photo area.

  • Below the photo area, usually in deeper waters, plants cannot grow.
